THE BEGGAR'S TRIO: SONGS AND SCENES FROM BRECHT, GAY, AND DUKE ELLINGTON
A multi-disciplinary performance created by Steve Newman and Marcus DeLoach
Friday, May 2, 2025 7:30 to 9PM
Join us for an evening of music and theater inspired by John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. The program includes selections from Gay and Johann Christian Pepusch's 1728 ballad opera The Beggar's Opera; Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's 1928 play with music, The Threepenny Opera; and the 1946 Broadway jazz musical Beggar's Holiday by Duke Ellington and John Latouche. Led by stage director Kyle Metzger and music director Steven Gross, a small instrumental ensemble will take us on a rich musical journey from the London of George II to Weimar Berlin and post-World War II New York. NORTHWEST PHILADELPHIA VENUE: Settlement Music School Peter A. Benoliel Germantown Branch 6128 Germantown Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19144
Your complimentary ticket includes a post-show discussion with the artists and community members
